Vělopolí municipality flag

Here is the flag of the municipality of Vělopolí in the Moravosilesian region (Frydek-Mistek okres) in Czechia. It was approved 8 June 2004 and published in Petr Exner's Vexillological Lexicon of Czech municipal flags 2004.
Description: two equally wide vertical stripes of blue and green; in center a white silhouetted stepping horse.

The municipal site shows the arms: per bend sinister azure and vert; over all a stepping horse argent with a cornear or.

Vělopolí lies in Podbeskydí in the downy upland surrounded by the villages of Horní Žukov in the north, Třanovice in the west, Strřítež in the south and Ropice in the east. The stream of Vělopolka, the tributary of the Ropičanka River, runs through the village. It is far from the main roads, the local road is connected to road I/48 in Horní Žukov and road I/68 in Střítež. To a large extent the isolated location of the village was one of the reasons why the village maintained its original foothill agricultural character and small farms are still the integral part of life of two hundred local inhabitants as well as the local atmosphere. The typical example of such a local farm is a farm-house no. 7 with an adjacent barn and a well from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
A 400-year-old monumental lime tree as well as an aged hornbeam is also worth noticing.
Calm and pleasant surroundings of the village with the typical Silesian scattered built-up area challenges for romantic walks, hiking, cycling or horse riding. From the higher level parts of the village there is a beautiful view of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains, the nearby Ostrava agglomeration and the lower level villages in the valleys of the Stonávka and Ropičanka Rivers, whose places of tourist interest as well as social, cultural and sports events of the micro-region complete the offer of the village of Vělopolí to its visitors. Those who seek a place to build their family house in the countryside and on the other hand well accessible from the neighbouring towns should have a look around the plots in Vělopolí.
