Petr Chelčický 1390 -1460, Christian reformer and philosopher, spent
most of his life here in the village Chelčice. He rejected all forms
of violence and, in accordance with the New Testament, regarded spiritual
struggle as the only way of improving human life and society. He condemned
the abuses of worldly life, particularly in the cities, and regarded agriculture
as the only meaningful activity. During his life he gathered around himself
a circle of followers and his ideas became the philosophical basis of the
famous Brethren Union, whose last bishop was Comenius.
