During the war with the USA in 1812, Lacrosse was on the first line of defense of Montreal. The border was defended by an alliance of Brits, Canadians and Mohawks.
After the failure of the 1837 uprising, some Patriote leaders withdrew to the USA, where they prepared an insurrection. A secrete army called Frères Chasseurs (Hunting Brothers) aimed at expelling the English from Canada. The insurrection planned during the night of 3 November 1838, but failed because of the total lack of organization and support. The next Friday, the Patriotes lacking weapons, ammunition and money, were defeated in front of the church of Odelltown. Several Patriotes were deported to Australia.

The coat of arms of Lacolle is "Per pale, 1a. Vert an astrolabe or, 1b. Argent a cannon sable, 2. Gules a bunch of grapes or leaved and slipped of the same. Chief azure three fesses wavy argent superimposed by a boundary marker or. The shield surrounded by two four-leaved branches of maple vert crossed in base and superimposed by a scroll or inscribed in letters sable with the motto "AUX CONFINS, UN ACCUEIL SANS PAREIL".

The chief azure (blue), a symbol of loyalty, reflects the watercourses and the location of Lacolle on the border with the USA. Or is a symbol of force and constancy, while argent is a symbol of beauty. The chief is also reflected in the motto, "On the Borders, Unmatched Greeting".
The quarter vert (green), a symbol of the land, represents the territory visited on 4 July 1609 by Samuel de Champlain. The astrolabe was the tool used to map the country. Champlain's survey was so precise and accurate that, 400 years later, historians and cartographers still praise it.
The cannon evokes the confrontations and troubles that happened there, whose outcome contributed to the birth of the country. Sable (black) symbolizes firmness and vigilance, while argent is a symbol of triumph.
The bunch of grapes recalls the first lord of the place, Louis Denys de Laronde. Or is symbol of faith, force and constancy. The field gules (red) is a symbol of greatness, audacity and valiance. The historian André Genest pointed out the importance of this symbol in the arms of Lacolle. The motto recalls the municipality's geographical location and states the inhabitant's greeting and hospitality.
