Description of the flag

Melancthon Township is part of Dufferin County, Ontario. The flag of the township, bearing number 2000, is shown on the Canadian Museum of History website. That flag might be specially designed for the celebration of the New Millenium, but this is only speculation.

A 1:2 white flag with a large heraldic style emblem centered on it. It can be blazoned as per bend sinister I Gules a plough Or and II Vert two potatoes Or and on a pile overall throughout issuing from the base in bend sinister Argent billety Or the figures "2000" Azure annd on a chief Azure a copse of three trees Or between a crescent Or at dexter and a maple leaf Or at sinister. Two ears of wheat Or serve as supporters and at the coronet/crest position bare lettering reading "Township of" and on a scroll Gules the name "Melancthon".

All colors are markedly dark; Or is rendered in amber, with contrast against the white background. Text is all caps; with serifs on the scroll, sans serif elsewhere. The shield has parallel sides and its top edge at right angles, the bottom rounds in slight sigmoids to a slightly pointed tip. It has a triple edge, thicker white at the center itself edged amber; the scroll has simple amber edging. The pile is thinly contoured in amber and a thicker amber line separates the chief from the field. The digits are thinly contoured in white.

Th museum website page about the flag (treated as an exhibit) shows that the reverse shows the same image as the obverse, but flipped.
