About the Flag of Palmas

White flag, two blue stripes toward the base, a yellow sun in the upper center.

The municipality of Palmas (242,070 inhabitants in 2012; 221,893 ha) is the capital of the Tocantins State. The municipality of Palmas was established on 20 May 1989, short after the establishment of the Tocantins State.

The white field is a symbol of peace. The blue stripes represent rivers Tocantins and Araguaia, of great significance for the progress and development of the State and of its capital. The sun symbolizes the town as the seat of the State government, where main governing decisions are taken.
