The municipality of Jardinópolis (37,725 inhabitants in 2010; 50,336 ha) is located in the far north of São Paulo State, 330 km of São Paulo.

Jardinópolis was originally a small settlement, part of the municipality of Batatais, located near river Pardo. Since there was an island nearby, the settlement was originally known as Ilha Grande (Great Island). The settlement was renamed in 1896 Jardinópolis, as a tribute to the lawyer, journalist and Republican politician Antônio Silva Jardim (1860-1891), who died in the crater of Mount Vesuvius. The municipality of Jardinópolis was established on 27 July 1898.

The flag, coat of arms and anthem are listed as the municipal symbols, without further description, in Article 4 of the Municipal Constitution, last amended 14 August 2003.

The flag is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 1,157 of 10 November 1983, modified by Municipal Law No. 1,723 of 22 September 1993 . The flag of is horizontally divided green-yellow-purple-white-red- black, which are the colours of the flags of Brazil and São Paulo State. A gray map of São Paulo State, charged with a "golden dot" marking the geographical location of the town, is placed in canton over the green and yellow stripes. The flag is in proportions 12 units x 17 units. Each horizontal stripe is 2 units in height. The map of the State is 2.5 units in the north- south direction and 3.8 units in the east-west direction. Its northern and southern ends are placed 1 unit from the upper and left border of the flag, respectively [this does not make sense; "1 unit from the upper border of the green stripe and the lower border of the yellow stripe, respectively" would make sense.] Law No. 1,723 of 22 September 1993 added the coat of arms in the middle of the flag.

The wording of the Laws makes it quite clear that the two versions of the flag were used successively, first without the coat of arms, then with the coat of arms.

The coat of arms is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 1,157 of 10 November 1983. Iberic shield, a mango fruit surrounded dexter by the flag of Brazil and sinister by the flag of São Paulo State, in chief a sword argent per pale. The shield surmounted by an eight-towered mural crown ports sable. The shield supported dexter by a branch of coffee fructed proper and sinister by a sugar cane leaved proper. Below the shield a scroll argent inscribed 'POR SÃO PAULO - PELO BRASIL - JARDINÓPOLIS'."

The Iberic shield, used in Portugal at the time of the discovery of Brazil, recalls the first colonizers and builders of the country. White is a symbol of sweetness, nobleness, firmness and purity, which are features of the administrators and inhabitants of Jardinópolis, always working for the progress of the municipality. The flags of Brazil and of São Paulo State represent loyalty, love and respect of the locals for the Fatherland and for the State. The mango fruit recalls that this fruit growths profusely here and is a main source of income. The sword is a representation of justice and law, which are features of the locals. The mural crown is a symbol of political emancipation. The open ports are a symbol of hospitality. The coffee branch and the sugar cane recall the fertility of the soil, whose crops contribute to the wealth of São Paulo State and Brazil. The motto, meaning 'For São Paulo - For Brazil - Jardinópolis", evokes the loyalty of the locals.

The aforementioned Law prescribing the addition of the coat of arms to the flag states that the coat of arms was modified in 1993 by Municipal Law No. 1,691, without giving further details.
