The municipality of União do Oeste (2,910 inhabitants in 2010; 9,306 ha) is
located 600 km west of Florianópolis.
União do Oeste was established in
1947 by colonists coming from Rio Grande do Sul. The district of São Luis was
established within the municipality of Coronel Freitas by State Law No. 4,137
promulgated on 18 January 1968.
The municipality of União do Oeste (West
Union) was established by State Law No. 1,104 promulgated in 1988 and
inaugurated on 1 June 1989, as the union of the former districts of São Luis and
Jardinópolis (subsequently elevated a municipality).

The flag of União do Oeste is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 2,889
promulgated on 18 September 1989.
Article 1.
The municipal flag
consists in the green, red and white colors, charged in the center with the coat
of arms approved by the Municipal Chamber.
