The municipality of São Cristóvão do Sul (5;598 inhabitants in 2020; 34,896 ha) is located 300 km west of Florianópolis.

Description of the Flag

The flag and arms of São Cristóvão do Sul are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 32 promulgated on 28 June 1993.

Article 2.
The flag of the municipality shall be represented by a rectangle in proportions 1.80 m on 1.20 m, featuring two diagonal stripes that represent in a stylized way a road junction as follows: from the base's midpoint to the left, forming a red triangular stripe; as opposed, from the lower midpoint to the right, pointing to the upper left canton, forming a gray triangular stripe.
On the white rectangle, the coat of arms of the municipality.

The coat of arms shall be represented with the following basic elements.
1 - A wall formed by gray stones with black masonry. Five bumps, two on the left representing towns, two on the right representing districts, and the central, higher, representing the municipal seat.
2 - The shield, divided into three quarters for the sky, blue, and two quarters for the land, gray, containing the following elements.
2.a. In the center, on the sky, two wine red cogwheels representing industrial potential.
2.b. Left, forming a perspective towards the horizon, three pines representing reforested areas.
2.c. Right, on the horizon line, a black araucaria, representing the region's rainforest.
2.d. In the center, on the horizon line, a tractor representing agriculture.
2.e. On the land, the road junction representing the two federal roads crossing the municipality (BR 116 and BR 470).
2.f. Beneath the junction, a white bovine representing cattle-breeding.
3. A (Bordeaux) wine scroll with black reverse surrounding the shield's base, inscribed in white "SÃO CRISTÓVÃO DO SUL" and "30 DE MARÇO DE 1993".

Article 3.
The heraldic meaning of the colors of the flag is the following.
White. Symbol of peace, friendship, work, prosperity, purity and religious spirit, also a color featured on the flag of the originating municipality, Curitibanos.
Blue. Symbol of honor, civility, courtesy, abundance and hope.
Wine red. Symbol of dedication, patriotic love, audacity, intrepidity, corage and valiance.
Gray. Symbol of friendship, work and progress.
Rectangle. Central, inscribing the coat of arms, means the municipal seat from which emanates power with peace and harmony.
