The municipality of Cruzeiro do Iguaçu (4,274 inhabitants in 2010; 161 sq. km) is located in southwestern Paraná, 450 km of Curitiba. Cruzeiro do Iguaçu was settled in 1955 by the Miranda, Vieira and Ferreira family. Located on the crossing of two trails heading to River Iguaçu, the place was named Cruzeiro do Iguaçu (Iguaçu Crossing) by the road engineer Roberto Grando. Cruzeiro do Iguaçu was made a district of the newly formed municipality of Dois Vizinhos by State Law No. 5,635 of 13 September 1967. The urban area was first defined in 1972. The municipality of Cruzeiro do Iguaçu was established by State Law No. 9,232 of 26 April 1990, which was confirmed by a plebiscite held on 1 September 1991. The municipality was inaugurated on 1 January 1993.

The symbols of Cruzeiro do Iguaçu are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 61 of 11 April 1991 The symbols were designed by Hemerson Fernando Giachini, winner of a public contest.

The blue rays emerging from the municipal coat of arms, placed in the middle of the flag, symbolize the splendor of the coat of arms.

The coat of arms depicts water, representing the strength and intelligence of the inhabitants, the sky, representing the whole world and the aspirations of the inhabitants, and the soil, representing life. Water represents rivers Chopim and Iguaçu, with the Julio Mesquito Filho factory and the planned Salto Caxias factory. The boat, the fisher and the reel represent fishing. The power lines represents the Copel power plant. The building in the upper right part, with windows, sunbathers, umbrellas and waterfall represents the planned leisure park and spa of Salto Caxias. The green grass represents the pastures. The white bovine represents cattle-breeding. The three chickens represent poultry farming. The building with a chimney represents industry, agribusiness and micro-industry. The swine represents pig farming. The tractor pulling a plough represents manual and mechanized agriculture. The araucarias and the forest stand for the forests that existed and still existing the municipal territory. The mountain topped with a cross represents the Nossa Senhora da Saúde sanctuary on Mount Calvary. The supporters, wheat, soybean, beans and a maize cob represent the municipal agriculture. The scroll bears the name of the municipality and the date of its establishment (01/01/1993).
