About the Flag

The municipality of Coronel Domingos Soares (7,238 inhabitants in 2010; 155,789 ha) is located 400 km south-west of Curitiba.

Coronel Domingos Soares was established as the 5th district of the municipality of Palmas by Municipal Law No. 129 promulgated on 4 May 1954, to be elevated a municipality by State Law No. 11,265 promulgated on 21 December 1995.
The municipality is named for Colonel Domingos Soares (1852-1928), State Deputy for Paraná (1914-1922) and Mayor of Palmas (1912-1916; 1925-1928).

The flag of Coronel Domingos Soares is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 16 promulgated on 6 June 1997.

Article 2.
The flag, symbol of the sovereignty of the municipality, is composed of the blue, white and green colors, with the following characteristics.
I. Composed of a rectangle diagonally divided by a white stripe, forming a blue triangle in the upper part and a green triangle in the lower part. In the center of the white stripe is placed the municipal coat of arms.
II. Blue represents the plenty of water in the region's river; white symbolizes peace; green, a symbol of hope, represents the forests and fields that support the municipality.

Article 3.
The features of the municipal flag shall obey the following rules.
I. The flag's width shall be 14 units.
II. The flag's length shall be 20 units.
III. The distance of the angle of the upper blue triangle to the rectangle's border shall be located in the upper 5th unit, heading to the 11th unit in the right vertical border.
IV. The distance of the angle of the lower green triangle in the left 3rd unit, heading to the lower 15th unit.
V. The white stripe shall be between the upper 5th unit heading to the right 11th unit and the left 3rd unit heading to the lower 15th unit.

The coat of arms of Coronel Domingos Soares is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 15 promulgated on 6 June 1997.

Article 2.
The coat of arms used as the distinctive emblem of the municipality shall be predominantly composed of the green, blue and white colors, with the following characteristics.
I. Shaped like a quadrilateral, divided in the middle all over its height by a vertical line. Left to the line divided by two horizontal lines forming three quarters, in the first quarter located in the upper part three Brazilian pines in a row, the first and the third of the same height, the central higher, all green, in the center, a black, red, blue and yellow tractor heading to the right, beneath a yellow and white cow looking to the right. Right to the vertical line, in the upper part, a representation of the sun, in the center, blue river water forming six small waves, white in the lower part. Above the quadrilateral a wall forming five castle towers arranged in a semi-horizontal pattern, white and black with red windows. Beneath the shield a red scroll arranged in a semi-oval pattern inscribed in white "CORONEL DOMINGOS SOARES". [The shield supported] dexter by a yerba mate plant and sinister by a palm.
II. Green, a symbol of hope, represents the forests and fields that support the municipality; blue, the rivers' water; white, peace.
III - The Brazilian pines represent pine woods, recalling that timber extraction is one of the population's main sources of income. The tractor represents agriculture, the base of municipal income. The cow is a symbol of cattle breeding, a pioneering activity and the base of regional income; the sun symbolizes heat and soil fertility, and the river represents the plenty of sources in the region.
IV. The yerba mate plant represents a source of income for the region. The palm represents a plant native to the municipality and growing profusely there.
