The municipality of Barbosa Ferraz (12,653 inhabitants in 2010; 53,862 ha)
is located 450 km north-west of Curitiba.
Barbosa Ferraz originates in a
settlement established within the municipality of Campo Mourão by civil engineer
Joaquim Vicente de Castro, who was also first Mayor of Londrina.
The
municipality of Barbosa Ferraz was established by State Law No. 4,245
promulgated on 25 July 1960. The town is named for Major Antônio Barbosa Ferraz,
a pioneer from Ribeirão Preto (São Paulo) who moved to North Paraná in the
1920s.
