About the Flag of Alem Paraíba

According to the text on the municipal website, the flag of Além Paraíba is intended to follow the tradition of being in the form of a standard, in conformance with resolution no. 25 of 16 January 1894. It is green with a yellow lozenge (modeled on the national flag), and thereon a white circle on which is an emblem representing the nation, state, and municipality. The emblem consists of:

• A violet (in the source webpage, shown light blue) celestial sphere crossed by a silver band inclined from right to left, on which is inscribed the name of the country, BRASIL, in golden letters; the sphere scattered with 23 stars, among which is the constellation of the Southern Cross, arranged as on the national seal, all symbolizing the nation.
• A radiant gold star above the sphere, symbolizing the state of Minas Gerais;
• A golden granite column, representing the free municipality, having on its base seven stars symbolizing the districts of the municipality, decorated by branches of tobacco and coffee in natural colors.
• On the white disk the words ESTADO DE MINAS GERAES (old spelling; the image on the source page shows the modern spelling), in gold letters.
• Surrounding the disk, a sky blue ring inscribed MUNICÍPIO DE ALÉM PARAHYBA (old spelling; again the image shows the modern spelling) in gold letters.
