Overview

Aruba was part of Dutch Antilles and used the flag of the islands. On 21 January 1976, a committee was formed to select a flag for the insular area. from 693 designs 157 were considered , following with variations of color and emblems, the patterns that are shown in the Samples of Proposals.
Three proposals were selected at the end. (see: Selected Proposals)
As it was difficult for manufacturing, Smith made a proposal (before that he proposed another flag rejected by Premier Croes). (see: Smith's Proposals).
A committee worked in the winner proposal and at end created the adopted flag.
