Description of the flag

In searching the web site of the University of Wollongong, a large institution located some 80 miles south of Sydney, I discovered that the university does indeed have a flag. A (very poor!) photo of this flag can be seen on one of the university news releases.

The flag features the shield of the university arms on a white field. The shield has a blue field, with an open book with white pages and gold cover/clasps and 3 red flame tree flowers on a yellow wavy chief. According to Clare Cochrane, an honours student who was project manager for the design of the mace of UOW in Dubai, "The principal elements incorporated in the Arms of the University are the blue of the sea, the gold of the sand and the red of the Illawarra flame tree."
