Catete is a town and commune in the municipality of
Ícolo e Bengo in the province of Luanda in northern
Angola. The first president of Angola, Dr Agostinho
Neto, was born in Ícolo e Bengo.

Catete - former municipal Arms and flag
During the colonial era, Catete was a former town and seat of the Council of Ícolo e Bengo (Concelho de Ícolo e Bengo) in the District of Luanda. Between 1980 and 2011, the Commune of Catete (and all of the Municipality of Ícolo e Bengo) was part of the Province of Bengo. In 2011 it was ceded to the Province of Luanda. In 2015 the municipality upgraded to the status of the City and Catete became a "barrio" (a neighbourhood) and lost its status as a town. Catete is currently the central part of the new City of Ícolo e Bengo and is the seat of the city administration.
The colonial symbols of Catete were
approved by the Portuguese Ministry of Overseas Territories and published on 15
March 1962.

The colonial Arms of Catete had a shield with a red field, in the centre of which was an open cotton boll with gold stem and septa and silver fibre locules; in Chief and counter-chief a wavy band of blue edged with gold.

The colonial flag of Catete was quartered yellow and white with the municipal Arms in the centre. The Cords and tassels were gold and silver.
