Description of the Flag

The official city website at www.cityofhenderson.com/mayor/php/factsheet.php describes the city flag as having a blue background with white writing with "Henderson Nevada" along the top, a torch in center of flag, and with "Flamma Industriae" (Flame of Industry) written beneath.

Henderson is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States within the Las Vegas metropolitan area. It is the second largest city in Nevada, after Las Vegas, with a population estimated at 249,386 in the 2007 Census Bureau. It occupies the southeast end of the Las Vegas Valley at an elevation of approximately 1,330 feet." - from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henderson,_Nevada.

About the City Flag:
"In 1954 the City of Henderson sponsored a contest for a design of a City Flag. The City invited students from Basic High School to enter the competition and design a flag which would represent the City. On August 2, 1954, Mr. David Stevenson presented the new design to the City Council and it was adopted. The color of the flag is a blue background with white writing. Across the top of the flag was "HENDERSON NEVADA," middle of the flag is a torch surrounded, parenthesis like, with laurel, and under this symbol are the words, "FLAMMA INDUSTRIAE."

Mr. Stevenson said he was taking Latin in school and since Henderson was the only industrial town in Nevada, "FLAMMA INDUSTRIAE" seemed appropriate. He advised that he's not sure why he chose blue and white, other than these are the colors of Basic High School."

The flag story and image of the flag I received from Kathy Blaha, City of Henderson Public Information Office.
