Flag

Rectangular panel with an aspect ratio of 2:3, divided into three equal vertical parts - red, white and golden yellow on the white part - the emblem of the city of Odessa.

  • Dark red (red) - a symbol of bravery, courage, fearlessness, generosity, love, fire, heat, passion and life forces.
  • Silver (white) - a symbol of purity, innocence, loyalty, reliability and kindness.
  • Gold (golden yellow) - a symbol of solar energy, wealth, strength, stability and prosperity.
  • Silver anchor cat on red field is the heraldic emblem of the city of Odessa on April 22, (OS), 1798 (Supreme approval emblem Emperor Paul I), existing at the moment and is sent unchanged to the next generation.
  • Galley anchor as heraldic monosimvol fixes basic milestone in the birth of the port city - the creation and prime location "Black rowing fleet Vice Admiral Deribas" (according to the known rescript Catherine II from 27.05.1794 years).

In addition to the ancient seafaring character, flourished there since ancient times, anchored in heraldry - the eternal symbol of hope and salvation. His silver tincture symbolizes purity of mind, and dark red emblem indicates that this region was conquered after a long and hard struggle for access to the Black Sea.

Color flags and standards of the mayor - "otgerbovye" and match the colors as current and historical coat of arms in 1798. In combination with the classical structure "tricolor", they reflect the heroic spirit (red), the pure soul (white), wealth and prosperity (golden yellow) Odessa and Odessa citizens and remodel the historic atmosphere of the late XVIII century, with its high ideals of freedom, equality and brotherhood, stressing that Odessa - a cheerful European city, where the spirit of freedom and sovereignty of catholicity.

Coat of Arms

In dark red rounded shield - silver anchor cat on all fours. Shield encased in gold stylized cartouche and crowned gold crown city of three teeth, under which - a gold star hero-city, faceted gold and diamond.

Gold Star - a status symbol "hero-city" which Odessa received for courage and heroism of its inhabitants during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Legally secured in 1965 by the Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet approved the provisions of the supreme degree of difference - Title "hero city".

Gold Star above the shield in conjunction with the city crown characterizes the status of hero-city and officially recognized Ukrainian Heraldry Society (SSD) for the codification of all the hero-cities of Ukraine.

Crown in Odessa emblem gold that corresponds to the status of the regional center.

External part of the emblem - a decorative cartouche and urban crown three (visible) teeth and rounded shape of a heraldic shield and formats with the standard of the city flag was recommended in 1995 for municipal heraldry Heraldic Ukraine Ukrainian society, to control and heraldic expert function in the Verkhovna Rada , and now the President of Ukraine.

The City

From the site of Ukrainian Heraldry:
"For the first time a settlement under the name of Kachibey was mentioned in 1396. Since the end of the XIV century the town depended on the Crimean Khanate. It had been under the jurisdiction of Russia since 1791. The town has got modern name in 1795."
