Adana Demirspor (Adana Demir Spor Kulübü) was established in 1940 by employees of the Turkish State Railways (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları, TCCD). Another 38 sports clubs named Demirspor were established by TCCD.
Adana Demirspor lost the final of the Turkish Cup to Trabzonspor (3-0; 0-0) in 1978 and finished 6th of Super League in 1982. The club was relegated to First League in 1995.

Adana Demisrpor is the club where two emblematic figures of Turkish football, Fatih Terim and Hasan Şaş, made their professional debuts.
Fatih Terim "The Emperor" (b. 1953) played for Adana Demirspor's youth team from 1963 to 1969 and for the professional team from 1969 to 1974 (125 caps, 25 goals).
