Galmudug State flag

Galmudug, which claims to control a combination of the Mudug and Galgadud regions, was first to test the theory of the "mini-state" in 2006.  Since that time, it has become a kind of role model for many mini-states claiming to govern areas over which they actually have they have little or no control.

Galmudug is a combination of the regions Galgadud and Mudug. The state was proclaimed in 2006.   It has used a number of flags.

Initially it flew the Somali flag but sometimes above the star a white inscription “State Somaliyya” was added.  The second flag used was white with the arms in center.  These arms were the Somali national arms between laurel branches, and below a blue ribbon with the white letters GMS.  The third flag used was blue over green horizontal stripes with a white triangle at hoist containing a red star.  This flag is the same design as the flag of Djibouti.  A further flag was light blue with green triangle at the hoist, fimbriated in white, bearing within a white crescent and star as shown above.

On 08 July 2010 this was changed the flag to a new design which comprises horizontal stripes of yellow, blue and green.  In the blue central stripe is a white five pointed star.

There’s a claim of a rival state to Galmudug called Golol Mudug.  It uses a flag which has three horizontal stripes of blue, over white over green with a red triangle at hoist.  In the center of the upper blue stripe is a white five pointed star.
