Coat of arms

[Bemposta (Mogadouro) commune CoA] image by Sérgio Horta, 4 May 2016

Shield Argent, five barrulets wavy Azure (officially, wavy of Argent and Azure, but not thus depicted), over all a pair of keys crossed per saltire, the bendy one Or and the sinister bendy one Argent, in base a grapevine Or leaved Argent at dexter and an olive branch Argent fruited Or at sinister. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "BEMPOSTA - MOGADOURO".
Meaning:
The keys are an attribute of St. Peter. The word "bemposta" is an apocope of "bem posta", meaning "well situated".

Presentation of Bemposta

Bemposta Commune is one of the 21 communes of Mogadouro Municipality; it had 602 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 37.1 km². This village is a former town and seat of an extinct municipality (existed from 1315 to the changes in the early 19th cent.) - hence the four towers and the choice for a two-coloured background (even though the law doesn't bar unremarkable communes to have two-coloured flags, it has been an custom of the Comissão de Heráldica da Associação dos Arqueólogos Portugueses (CHAAP) till recently to reserve the quartered pattern to go only with 4-tower arms).
