It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain purple field.

Coat of arms

Shield Or, a grapevine Purpure leaved Vert surrounded by two corn cobs Gules leaved Vert (at dexter and sinister), a lyre Purpure stringed Sable in chief and a heraldic fountain in base. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "COVÕES"
Meaning:
The lyre is representing the local Philharmonical Society, established on 13 June 1868, it also is reminding on the cultural and recreative facilities. Grapevine and corn cobs are representing agriculture and viticulture, the most important local economic activities. The fountain is symbolizing the mineral waters of Montouro, containing a mixture of bicarbonate, sulphuric and sodic minerals.

Covões Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Cantanhede Municipality (q.v.); it had 2155 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 27.5 km².
