It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of green and white.

Coat of arms

Coat of Arms: Shield Or, a wild olive tree eradicated Vert fruited of the same flanked by two fleur-de-lis Gules, in base a bar wavy Azure charged with a barrulet wavy Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "". "AZAMBUJA".
Meaning:
The wild olive tree (Port.: zambujeiro) is a canting element. The fleur-de-lis are attributes of Our Lady of Assumption, the local patron saint.
