Coat of Arms

[Flag of Lavangen]
image by Tomislav Šipek, 03 December 2015

Blazon: I rødt tre gull bjørkeblad forent i trepass. In English: Gules three birch leaves or in pall stems conjoined.
Approved by the royal resolution of 18 December 1987 after a drawing by Øystein Hermod Skaugvolldal. [c2j88]
The Wikipedia https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavangen explains the arms symbolising the three ethnic communities in the municipalities, the Norwegians, Kvens and Sami. Kvans are a minority people in Norway descended from Finnish peasants and fishermen who migrated to North Norway in the 18th and the 19th century.
The http://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=Lavangen provides similar explanation, but also without providing a source.
