Coat of Arms

[COA of Gjesdal]image by Tomislav Šipek, 18 January 2016

I blått et sølv værhode sett forfra. In English: Azure a ram's head caboshed argent.
Approved by the royal resolution of 15 March 1985 after a drawing by Kai Wood Moe after a draft by Jørgen Otteren. [c2j87]
The design refers to sheep breeding and wool industry. [c2j87] mentions also that ram's head is an old heraldic charge, that may be found in a number of 14th century Norwegian seals. It depicts almost identical arms in a seal from 1400 of one Aslak Tordsson.
