Coat of Arms

[COA of Sør-Aurdal] image by Tomislav Šipek, 01 December 2015

Blazon: På grøn grunn ei skråstilt sølv klubbe. In English: Vert a club argent in bend.
Approved by the royal resolution of 4 March 1988 after a drawing by Amund Rudi.
The municipal web site explain that "it should remind the club of Kolbein the Strong, a powerful westerner in the army of King Olav Haraldsson (later St. Olav), in 1021 again the ruler Dale-Gudbrand on Hundorp. This meeting is known from Snorre (Eddas).
http://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=S%C3%B8r-Fron explains a bit more of the historical event - The arms show the club that smashed to pieces the statue of the god Thor standing at Hundorp.
