Zoetermeer 1965-1991 flag

[Zoetermeer old flag] by Jarig Bakker, 12 Nov 2003

From 1965-1991 Zoetermeer had a flag: : cobaltblue with three gold/yellow straight standing "meerbloemen" (lake-flowers) - not found in my dictionaries, but apparently connected to the famous Frisian "pompebledden". The blue was supposed to stand for "sweatwater lake" and some nitwits compared the meerbloemen to "muurbloemen" (wall-flowers, girls waiting in vain for a dance...)

Perhaps the "meerbloemen" are waterlilies.
