Presentation of Jegunovce

The municipality of Jegunovce (10,790 inhabitants; 60.98 sq. km) is located in northern North Macedonia, approximately half way between Tetovo and Skopje in the Vardar valley, near the northernmost point reached by the river Vardar in North Macedonia. It is made of the village of Jegunovce and the settlements of Belovište, Vratnica, Žilče, Jažince, Jančište, Kolance, Orašje, Podbrege, Prenjubište, Raotince, Ratae, Rogačevo, Siričino, Staro Selo, Tudence and Šemševo.

The village of Jegunovce developed after the establishment of the Jugohrom HEK (Hemijsko-Elektrometalurski Kombinat) plant in 1952. The plant currently produces over 60,000 tons per year of ferroalloys (ferrochrome, ferrosilicon) using raw materials such as coal, quartz, ferrous iron, and chromium ore (and causing a significant pollution of ari, soil and water). The company employs some 2.000 workers.
