Introduction

The flag appears on North Korean stamp issued on Aug 15th 1946 for the 1st anniversary of Liberation of the country from Japan. The flag design is a bit different from the present national flag of the Republic of Korea. It was used from Feb 1946 to 08 Sep 1948 as the flag of Korean Provisional People's Committee.

In the image of the older flag, Yi and Kam have different places, the trigrams are a bit more open and closer to the corners, and the flag has a narrow black border. The colours are also slightly different, but I don't know whether that's significant.
Peter Hans van den Muijzenberg, 24 September 2009

The top right and bottom left trigrams in today's version of the South Korean national flag are swapped over.
