The University of Bologna is the oldest university of Europe; one can read more about it on <www.comune.bologna.it> (in English). Unfortunately no info on the gonfalon.

In the recent matches between Bologna and Sporting Lisbon quite a number of fan flags where seen, from the Bologna side. one was a white flag with a red and blue diagonal and the other one a blue-red-white vertical tricolor.

Gonfalone-Shaped Billboards

In the Bologna historical center, city ads for cultural events are pasted on metal gonfalone-shaped poster holders as seen at my photo at flicker, complete with (metal) cords and tassels.
