Presentation of Jastrebarsko

The Town of Jastrebarsko (16,689 inhabitants in 2001; 5,419 in the town of Jastrebarsko) is named for the hawk (jastrijeb) that has found its place on the coat of arms, too. The town name is often shortened to Jaska, a practice already used in the Middle Ages.

Flag of Jastrebarsko

The symbols of Jastrebarsko are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Jastrebarsko , adopted on 24 October 1994 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 25 October 1994 in the local official gazette Službeni vjesnik općina: Jastrebarsko, Klinca Sela, Krešic, Pisarovina i Sošice, No. 5.
Decision Odluka o izmjeni Odluke o grbu i zastavi Općine Jastrebarsko, adopted on 23 January 1996 by the Town Assembly and published on 24 January 1996 in the Town official gazette Službeni vjesnik Grada Jastrebarsko, No. 2, has only three Articles, two determinations and the third setting the validity prescriptions (being standard contents of Decisions). The first Article determines changes in penalty fees for misuse of the symbols, while the second Article determines that the terms "municipality" and cognates are replaced throughout the 1994 Decision with term "town" and cognates - because in the mean time Jastrebarsko was granted the Town status (1995).
The symbols are described in Article 5 to 7 of the Town Statutes Statut Grada Jastrebarskog, adopted on 27 September 2001 by the Town Assembly and published on 26 October 2001 in Službeni vjesnik Grada Jastrebarsko, No. 5 (text). This was repeated in the current Town Statutes Statut Grada Jastrebarskog, adopted on 21 July 2009 by the Town Assembly and published on 23 July 2009 in Službeni vjesnik Grada Jastrebarsko, No. 7

The flag is described as a blue flag, with proportions 1:2, with the coat of arms in the middle so that the bird looks towards the hoist. The description of the flag does not mention the yellow outline of the coat of arms, although I believe that it has always been there and it certainly is in the flags in use. The orientation of the bird in the flag is described as it is vexillologically proper, looking towards the hoist, therefore also defining reverse properly; most of descriptions of municipal flags in Decisions ignore the matter altogether.
The flag used is dark blue with the coat of arms with a light blue field bordered yellow.

Former symbols of Jastrebarsko

The former symbols of Jasterbarsko were prescribed by Decision Odluka o izmjeni Statuta općine Jastrebarsko amending the Municipality Statutes, adopted on 19 September 1990 by the Municipality Council and published the same day in Službeni vjesnik općine Jastrebarsko, No. 7 (text).

The flag is described as blue with the coat of arms in the centre, in proportions 5:11.
The coat of arms depicts a hawk, "from the historical seals of the 16th through 18th century documents", on a white scarf, encircled with initial "J" above the municipality name and with a chequy (5 x 5) red-white panel in the canton.
