Presentation of Antunovac

The municipality of Antunovac (3,559 inhabitants in 2001, 2,283 in the village of Antunovac) is located 10 km south of Osijek . Until 1992/1994, the official name of the place was Antunovac Tenjski, as one of the several places in Croatia named Antunovac; since it is the only municipality with this name, the attribute was dropped.

The symbols of Antunovac are prescribed by Decision Odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Antunovac, adopted in 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Autunovac, No. 1. The Decision was amended by Decision Odluka o izmjenama Odluke o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Antunovac, adopted on 22 October 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 23 October 2009 in Službeni glasnik Općine Autunovac, No. 5.
The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Antunovac, adopted on 7 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 8 July 2009 in Službeni glasnik Općine Autunovac, No. 3.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag is described in Article 9 of the Municipality Statutes as follows:

The flag of the Municipality of Antunovac is of a single colour, red, with a ratio of the length to the width of 2:1, in accordance with the legal prescriptions. In the centre of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals is placed the coat of arms of the Municipality on both sides of the flag, edged with a yellow/golden outline.

The flag is described in Article 8 of the Municipality Statutes as follows:

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Antunovac is in a semi-circular shield, on a white/silver field, St. Anthony clad as a Franciscan monk, the head tonsured with a yellow/golden halo, holding in the right arm Child Jesus, the arms spread, clad in a white/silver tunic, the head in a yellow/golden halo, and in the left arm raising a lily flower proper.

The arms, "Argent St. Anthony of Padua, Doctor of the Church, stantant clad as a Franciscan monk proper holding in his right arm Jesus Infant clad argent both haloed or and in his left hand a lily flower argent seeded or and stalked vert", portrays St. Anthony, the patron saint and namesake of the municipality and among the most revered saints in Croatia. The St. Anthony of Padua parish church, built in 1800, was much destroyed in the 1990s war. The Catholic iconography usually shows the saint holding the Child; a famous story says that he spent one night holding Baby Jesus in his arms. The lily is one of his symbols.
