The symbols of Velika Trnovitica were designed by Berislav Schejbal, an archaeologist in the Museum of Daruvar, with a number of works published in scientific journals, who kindly provided drawings and information used on this page.
The flag (photo) is in proportions 1:2, green with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The description of the coat of arms given by the designer is u plavom polju žuto zvono nadvisuje crna trnova grančica, more or less, "Azure a bell or and in the chief a thorn branch fesswise sable". The designer's explanation for the "historical background" of the coat of arms is:

The bell stands for the local school, its bell from 1759 being preserved and displayed in the village. The thorn (Croatian, trn) branch makes the arms canting, recalling also the name of the medieval parish of St. Martin in the Thorns recorded in 1501 at this site.
