Description

The Municipal flag of Lequeitio was approved by the Town Council on 12 August 1966; it is white with the coat-of-arms in the center.

The coat-of-arms dates back to 1588 and is per fess, 1st, gold, to the dexter a yew sinople and to its feet two wolves sable, facing each other and looking to the yew, to the sinister a tower masoned sable, in its battlements two Moors proper, all terrased sinople. 2nd, on waves azure and silver a pinaza (a special kind of boat) with several rowers and in its prow a rower in attitude of throwing a harpoon to a whale that is accompanied by a whale-calf. Bordure of gold with the legend: "Reges de bellavit horrenda cette subjecit terra marique potens Lequeitio" gules.

The municipal arms are available at Ralf Hartemink's ICA website, but lack the gold bordure with red Latin inscription.
