Overview

Chinchipe canton (10,200 ha) is located in the extreme south of Zamora Chinchipe province.
The canton was established by Executive Decree No. 96, issued on 15 December 1920 and published on 5 January 1921 in the Ecuadorian official gazette, No. 96.

Flag

The provincial flag was created in 1955.
The colors were taken from the provincial coat of arms.
Yellow represents the sun and the gold resources in soil and rivers, which have been exploited by miners since the Inca period.
Green represents the flora and fauna, as well as agriculture and cattle-breeding as a source of income.
