Description

The BIJRD flag can be seen in many photographs online, usually in conjunction with the Dominican Republic national flag and the flag of the Office of the First Lady. The clearest example can be seen at http://vicepresidencia.gob.do/vicerdo/2016/02/26/biblioteca-infantil-conmemora-bicentenario-matias-ramon-mella/ (seen with a gold fringe). The flag consists of the library's logo centered on a white field. The logo itself is in the form of an open book, with pages in shades of red, orange, and yellow, with a green page in the process of being turned. Above the logo and left of center is the word "BIBLIOTECA" in thin, green capital letters. Below the logo are the words "INFANTIL Y JUVENIL" in large green capital letters above the words "REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA" in smaller green capital letters. Of note, the capital "U" in "República Dominicana" does contain the accent mark.

About the Library

The Biblioteca Infantil y Juvenil República Dominicana (BIJRD, Dominican Republic Children's and Youth Library) was opened in May 2009 after expansion and remodeling under the auspices of the Office of the First Lady of the Dominican Republic. "It is the first Dominican public library, aimed especially at children, adolescents and young people of the country, involving their families within a cultural and technological environment to create reading habits, promote positive attitudes, facilitate knowledge and literacy in the use and exploitation of information." I don't believe the library is an official part of the Dominican Republic government nor is overseen by any part of the government, but it does have ties to the Office of the First Lady.
