Introduction

According to §1(3) of source to Honnef were granted the rights of a city by the Prussian king on 14 July 1862. By a decree of the government of Northrhine-Westphalia the city gained also the right to add the prefix Bad (Engl.: spa) to its name on 27 January 1960.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is chequered 30 times into silver(=white) and red superimposed by a 5-tongued blue cadency mark.
Meaning:
According to Ralf Hartemink's webpage the counts of Sponheim-Blankenburg owned the district LLöwenberg, of which Honnef was a major city. Their arms became those of the city.
