Description of former banner:
It is a red - white - red vertical triband with ratio 1:3:1 and a red bannerhead. The coat of arms is in the centre of the bannerhead.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver(=white) shield are three red clover leaves ordered two above one.
Meaning:
According to source those are the arms of died out kin of von Mettingen, who had been in service of the counts of Tecklenburg. The arms appeared first on a seal of 1299. The colours are those of the counts of Tecklenburg.

The banner was generated probably about 1950 and is mentioned in 2 of Hauptsatzung of the municipality of Mettingen, version 9 November 1994. The coat of arms was approved by Oberpräsident of Prussian province of Westphalia on 26 October 1938.
