Shield parted per bend of Azure and Gules a lion rampant Or.
Meaning:
The tinctures blue and golden are those of the Counts of Nassau. Red is the tincture of the Archbishopric of Mainz and the Archbishopric of Trier. Both owned parts of the current county. The lion is a representation of the numerous lions displayed on the arms of former rulers, as the Counts of Nassau, the Counts of Katzenelnbogen, the Counts of Diez and the the Palatine Counts and Electors of Rhine

Flag and banner were approved on 2 February 1976. The arms were approved on 26 January 1970 by Minister of Interior of Rheinland-Pfalz.
