Görlitz County

Landkries Görlitz is a county in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It is named after its capital city Görlitz. It borders (from the west and clockwise) the county of Bautzen, the state Brandenburg, Poland and the Czechia.
The county was established by merging the former counties of Löbau-Zittau and Niederschlesischer Oberlausitzkreis and the county free city of Görlitz as part of the reform of August 2008. The former counties Niederschlesischer Oberlausitzkreis and Löebau-Zittau never had proper flags.
The county comprises the south-eastern part of Lusatia, including part of the Lausitzer Bergland. The Lusatian Neisse forms its eastern border, the Spree flows through the western part of the county.

Görlitz County Coat of Arms

[Görlitz County CoA] image by Jens Pattke, 25 Apr 2009

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Azure an impending inescutcheon Or, charged with an eagle Sable, armed and tongued Gules, on his breast a crescent recumbent Argent topped by a Greek crosslet of the same; at sinister Gules, a lion rampant double queued Argent, armed tongued and crowned Or, over all in base an embattled wall Or masoned Sable, charged in centre with three linden leaves Vert in fan.
Meaning:
The county´s territory belongs to Upper Lusatia (Oberlausitz), which is why the wall has been displayed. The wall is taken from the arms of Upper Lusatia, derived from the city arms of Bautzen. The linden leaves on the wall represent the Sorbian population of the county. The division in blue and red is symbolising the connection between the Upper Lusatian wall and the Bohemian lion. The Bohemian lion represents the long relationship with the Kingdom of Böhmen. The Lower Silesian eagle stands for the cultural identification of a part of the inhabitants with Silesia (Schlesien).
