Description of banner:
It is a red banner. At the top is a golden (= yellow) double headed eagle topped by a label of the same colour having four flaps.
Source: §2(2) of Hauptsatzung of the municipality of Merzenich version 12 December 1984, updated 21 December 1995. According to source there is only a banner.

Meaning:
According to source the eagle is known from seals since 1447. The label was added later. The fess as part of the label is symbolizing the lords Stach of Golzheim, the flaps are representing the four former muncipalities that formed Merzenich.

The banner and was approved by Regierungspräsident Köln on 23 June 1978, the coat of arms on 24 October 1975.
