Ammerland County Coat of Arms

[Ammerland County arms] 2:3 image by Jörg Majewski, 14 Dec 2007
adopted 3 Jul 1978

Origin/meaning:
The old arms (left) were granted on 27 March 1952.
The arms show in the upper part the arms of the State of Oldenburg, to which the district belonged. The acorn symbolizes the large forests in the district. The fourth quarter shows the oldest arms of the counts of Oldenburg, two bars dancetty, which were changed in 1200 by Moritz von Oldenburg into straight bars as can be seen in the first quarter.
The new arms were granted on 3 July 1978.
The cross in the second quarter was replaced by a cross moline, the more correct historical cross for the area around Spohle and Conneforde.
