The name of the new community refers to the once mighty castle complex in the Blenio Valley. This has long since fallen into ruins.
Serravalle's emblem shows a crumbling wall with a round gate opening, as can actually be seen in the ruins. The crumbling wall is surmounted by three (unheraldic-looking) bars, which are presumably intended to represent the three communities that joined together. These elements are very difficult to be interpreted by outsiders. The circular area is unclear either. Is it a part of the ruins, the sun or the full moon?

The new commune of Serravalle was formed on 1 April 2012 by the communes of Ludiano, Malvaglia and Semione (see below).
