About the Flag

The municipality of Morungaba (11,775 inhabitants in 2010; 14,650 ha) is located 40 km of Campinas and 100 km of São Paulo. Morungaba was awarded the title of "Climatic Resort" by a Law adopted on 25 July 1994.

Morungaba was founded on 29 June 1888, as Conceição de Barra Mansa. The district of Conceição de Barra Mansa was established in 1891, as part of the municipality of Itatiba, and renamed Morungaba in 1919. The municipality of Morungaba was established on 28 February 1964 and inaugurated on 28 March 1965. The municipality is named for a Tupi-Guarani word meaning "a bee hive".

The symbols of Morungaba are prescribed in Article 2 of the Municipal Constitution, adopted on 6 April 1990, as "the flag, the coat of arms and the anthem, adopted by Municipal Law".

The flag of Morungaba is blue with a white-red-white saltire. In the middle of the flag is placed a white disk charged with the municipal coat of arms. The saltire is shown on some flags with the three stripes of equal width, while on other flags the central, red stripe is extremely thin.
