The municipality of Lençóis Paulista (70,331 inhabitants in 2010; 80,386 ha) is located in center-western São Paulo State, 280 km of São Paulo.

Lençóis Paulista is known as "The town of the Books", since the municipal library "Orígenes Lessa" holds more volumes than the town has inhabitants. The library is named for the local writer and journalist Orígenes Lessa (1903-1986), who was elected in 1981 at the Brazilian Academy of Letters. The other local hero is the sprinter Claudinei da Silva (b. 1970), member of the 4 x 100 m relay team that won the silver medal in the 2000 Olympics (Sydney) and the bronze medal in the 1999 World Championships (Sevilla). On 200 m, he won the silver medal in the 1999 World Championships and the bronze medal in the 1997 World Championships (Athens).

The flag of Lençóis Paulista is horizontally divided yellow-blue-green, the stripes being separated by a white wavy line. The motto "PRO DEO, PRO PATRIA" is written in white letters on the blue stripe.

The flag is in dimension 14 units x 20 units. The height of the flag is divided into three equal parts, the central one being itself divided into eight equal parts required to find the center of the arcs that form the wavy lines. For the same reason, the horizontal dimension of the flag is divided into five equal parts. The division of the flag requires the drawing of four wavy lines. From top to bottom, considering only the center of the first arc, which matches the upper left apex of the flag: - the 1st line, separating the yellow stripe from the white stripe, has a radius equal to 1/3 of the flag's height; - the 2nd line, separating the white stripe from the blue stripe, is separated from the aforementioned line by 1/8 of the third of the flag's height; - the 3rd line, separating the blue stripe from the lower white stripe is separated from the 4th wavy line by 1/8 of the third of the flag's height; - the 4th line, separating the lower white stripe from the green stripe, has a radius equal to 2/3 of the flag's height. The height of the letters is equal to 4/8 of the third of the flag's height. The letters are equally spaced from the white stripes, by 1/8 of the flag's height.

The yellow and green stripes represent the resources of Lençóis Paulista, as the fruit of its work, industry and commerce. The blue stripe represents the sky and river Lençóis. The white stripes represent "River Lençóis' white foam". The motto means "For God, For the Motherland".
