Jagua-ru is a beast described in natives' legend as a monstrous animal with a sea wolf's body and a tiger's head and claw, of the approximate size of a deer or a small horse. The beast used to make excavations in ravines close to the banks where people lived, causing landslides that threw down people into the river. The beast attacked them, extracting their lungs and throwing the remaining parts of the bodies into the river. Jagua-ru resisted all attempts of capture and trapping, and still lives in people's imagination.
