The municipality of Juína (39,260 inhabitants in 2010; 26,251 sq. km) is located in northern Mato Grosso, on the border with Rondônia, 750 km of Cuiabá.

Juína was established as a municipality in 1976 to increase agricultural colonization. Emigrants, mostly from southern Brazil, came to Juínavia the road linking Aripuanã (Mato Grosso) and Vilhena (Rondônia).

The flag shown on the municipal website significantly differs from the one shown on Wikipedia. Here the cross is decentered and three red stars are placed on its right horizontal arm.
