Presentation of Vaux-sur-Sûre

The municipality of Vaux-sur-Sûre (4,759 inhbitants on 1 January 2007; 13,587 ha) is located in the Ardennes, near Bastogne. The municipality of Vaux-sur-Sûre is made since 1976 of the former municipalities of Vaux-sur-Sûre (formed in 1970 by the merging of the former municipalities of Vaux-lez-Rosières, Morhet and Nives), Hompré, Juseret and Sibret (except the hamlets of Isle-le-Pré and Senonchamps, incorporated to Bastogne).
Vaux-sur-Sûre is made of 38 villages, the biggest of them being Vaux-lez-Rosières (adminsitrative seat of the municipality, 780 inh.) and the smallest Planchipont (1 inh.).

Municipal flag of Vaux-sur-Sûre

According to Armoiries communales en Belgique. Communes wallonnes, bruxelloises et germanophones, there is no municipal flag used in Vaux-sur-Sûre.

The municipal website gives the full texts of the application and of the grant of the municipal arms and seal.

Application

Le Conseil Communal, réuni en date du premier juillet 1982,
- sur base d'éléments historiques importants en vue d'obtenir la reconnaissance d'armoiries anciennes, et
- sur base de l'étude et des renseignements fournis par Mr l'Abbé Henri Jacob, auteur des ouvrages "Le seigneur de Cobreville en la prévôté d'Ardenne (1400-1836)" et "Paroisse d'Ardenne ( VIIIème - XXème siècle)",
a sollicité la reconnaissance ou concession des armes de Cobreville pour lui servir de sceau communal

The Municipal Council, in its session of 1 July 1982,
- based on historical elements significant for the grant of ancient arms, and;
- based on the study and indications provided by Priest Henri Jacob, author of the books ...,
has applied for the recognition or grant of the arms of Cobreville, to be used as the municipal seal.

Grant

Par délibération de l'Exécutif de la Communauté française du 11 décembre 1991 et par arrêté signé le 18 décembre 1991, Mr Valmy FEAUX, Ministre-Président de l'Exécutif de la Communauté Française, autorise la commune de Vaux-sur-Sûre à faire usage d'armoiries particulières et d'un sceau ci-après décrit :
Armoiries : d'or à la face d'azur chargée de trois coquilles du champ, et accompagnée en chef de trois merlettes de sable rangées et en pointe de deux couleuvres passées en sautoir;
Sceau : le sceau reproduit les armoiries ci-dessus

By deliberation of the Executive of the French Community of 11 December 1991 and by Decree signed on 18 December 1991, ... allows the municipality of Vaux-sur-Sûre to use specific arms and a seal, described as follows:
Arms: "Or a fess azure three shells of the field, in field three merlettes sable, in point two grass snakes crossed per saltire";
Seal: the seal shall reproduce the aforementioned arms.
